Competition Stages

The competition is in 3 parts and will provide all acts with fantastic exposure to all of Glasgow and the music industry

Part 1:

The first part will require all acts to complete the registration form and submit this along with a one track demo and photograph of their act.

The closing date for all submissions is 11th June 2010

After this date a panel of judges will listen to all demos and mark each act based on their demo and registration form. The top 20 acts will be selected and uploaded to this website for all young people to vote for their top 3 acts.

Part 2:

The top 20 acts will then battle it out online from 1st -15 July 2010 and the 3 acts with the most votes at the end of this stage will go through to the live final at the O2 in Glasgow on Wednesday 3rd November 2010.

Part 3:

The top 3 acts selected will then work with the M.I.M.A project for 6 weeks to develop their act in time for the final stage of the competition. This will include:

  • Group song writing development
  • Industry seminars from industry professionals
  • Live/Recording Engineers Visits
  • Commercial Music Industry Advice and Guidance
  • Assistance in developing set list
  • Assistance in developing stage presence and image

The Top 3 acts will then be invited to perform at the O2 in Glasgow in November in front of a panel of industry judges and young people. One act will be crowned the City Sounds 2010 Winner on the night.

When will I find out if I'm successful?

If you’re successful in getting into the top 20, we’ll drop you an email on 25th June 2010 so you can start promoting your act and encouraging people to vote for you!

The voting will be open to the public from 1st -15th July 2010.

Just to be fair people will have to listen to your entire track and once they have, they will only be able to vote for your track once. They can also vote for other acts too, again though only once.

The top 3 acts must confirm they are available to play live on the City Sounds stage at the O2 in November when they are contacted on 25th June.

Failure to confirm your attendance will result in your act being withdrawn from the competition and your spot re-allocated to the act with the next highest amount of votes.
